Services
Here is a description of the services we offer.
Children's meal programs
Our kid’s programs have been a blessing to the community. We provide meals for children in the summer and weekend meals to school children to help prevent them from returning to school hungry.
Pantry partners for this have been the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, Food Bank of Alaska, and the Homer Foundation. Individuals, local businesses, and organizations like Kachemak Auto (aka NAPA) and the Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club.
Weekly Food Line and a meal
On Fridays from 4-6 pm the Anchor Point Food Pantry distributes a bag of food and a meal to our neighbors that need the extra help. With high rents, fuel, and food prices many go hungry to pay their bills.
FOOD INSECURITY AFFECTS…
Seniors and the disabled with high medical bills; Those laid off; Homes with sudden illnesses; Working families with children, Veterans, the Disabled, Newly-weds and all who pay high rents; Seasonal Workers; People new to the area, those waiting to get paid, and the homeless.
Holiday Meals and boxes
We supply holiday meals, food boxes, and gifts for children. We do this with the help of pantry partners: Share the Spirit, Lion's Club, KP Food Bank, and you!
TEFAP - The Emergency Food Assistance Program.
The KP Food Bank comes to Anchor Point to provide a box of commodities and protein items. It’s usually on the second Friday of the month. We post the updated information on Facebook.
Summer Produce
Summer produce programs are made available through local farmers, the Homer farmer's market, KP Food Bank and Food Bank of Alaska. At our new property we planned for greenhouses and stocking up food classes.
Community Resource Connect
and Project Homeless.
Homelessness is an issue that won’t go away. Once a year we join partners with Community Resource Connect (Project Homeless) throughout the state to help the pre-homeless stay off the street; also, to help the homeless survive the winter. Partners are Local vendors and businesses, CRC Homer, Bridges in Kenai.
Youth Volunteers
The boy scouts and the early elementary classes have made meals for us to share with our neighbors. The joy and the smiles were unlimited from all. The fifth graders helped us fill baggies of animal food. (Thanks to Homer Animal Friends!)
We encourage the youth to help us. Teenagers can help us with serving and the heavy items. Young ones can rip boxes, fill baggies, and prepare meal bags.
Community Events
The Anchor Point Food Pantry is a community partner. We get involved with local events. We seek to be a blessing to our neighbors. Through the help of the Ninilchik Three Bears and McNeil Canyon Meats, we were able to provide burgers and hot dogs at the VFW 4th of July picnic, 2022. Walmart donated the candy!
